Evolution in grand parenting needs to recognize that patriarchy has dictated for so long that the father's family has long been the preferred tradition in many cultures in terms of prominence, and even in legal rights. That was long before there was discussion about the equal rights of women, however, and the remnants of that tradition are still well and alive in modern cultures.

Grandparents don't arrive equally in culture within the human hierarchies tradition has crafted for us.

Status of women often accompanies status of the parents when it comes to grandparents even if women feel more confident in the company of their mothers when birthing, and in the first few weeks. Equality of grand parenting follows the equality of parents - mother or father, by gender, as in society.

Those special issues are ones that grandparents must accept or attempt to change within society by the strengthening of women's rights socially to create a more equitable society, fairer to everyone.

I have a Mom who has said some horrible untrue things in front of my child, very hurtful things about me. We recently had a huge blow up and she will not admit she ever said the things she did, why wont she just admit she said these things and apologize? I get excuses from her like well maybe I had a reason to say that, or I don't remember saying that. This is so hurtful and I need to get past it but I get so angry and upset and end up being abusive mentally back to her. I need help with this.
