... I chose to be called "Nana" which is what I called my own grandmother. I figured it would be easy for them to pronounce at an early age, and it would be a nice tribute to my Nana as well.

My grandson was calling me Mommy too so we had him reverse it to Mema — I love it.

My precious granddaughter Kaidance began calling me "YahYah" when she was about 10 mo.old. Little did we know at the time it is the misspelled version of the Greek name for grandmother. All I know is it is music to my heart when all of the little ones call out to me using YahYah!

I am Mamaw, the name my first incredible granddaughter chose for me. The only living granddad I knew was an anchor in my life. I would have given anything to have had a grandmother by any name. I don't feel older. I feel renewed and younger in my relationships and await the arrival of the next grandchild in the spring. Biggin, you and 2 can call me anything as long as you know how much I love you.

I selected Nana. Hubby and I are both of German decent and I thought seriously about Oma, but my father's mother was Nanny and she was an amazing woman. She was the German grandmother, however she was a Nanny in her single years and that's what all of us called her. I decided to put the two together and have the tribute to my Nanny with the Nan and added the to remember who we are, It works and I can't wait to hear my two month old grandchild finally say it! :)
