Zip ties and at the very least, a Leatherman need to be in the trunk. I have a gallon storage bag labeled 'useful junque' that has what is listed (jumper cables are in their own bag. The idea of storing batteries separately is good. The .357 should be in the purse, not in the trunk.

What is much better than jumper cables, in my opinion, is one of those new compact batteries that you can start your car with even if you're by yourself. They're about $100, and are so very easy to use! You can still have jumper cables as a backup (in case you forgot to re-charge the jumper battery), but we haven't used old-fashioned cables in YEARS.

When selecting jumper cables, look at the actual size of the wire where its fastened to the clamps NOT the size of the coating .I have seen cables smaller than #12 wire (this is the size of house wiring) with enough plastic covering it to make the cables 3/8 inch thick.
remember the copper wire carries the voltage not the housing.
PS: I have over 45 years in the auto repair buisness
