Norwegian Gem, one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ships, offers seven-day cruises from New York City to the Bahamas and Florida. On board the Gem, as well as other NCL ships, many suites interconnect to create two or more bedrooms. Freestyle cruising — the flexibility to choose and create your own itinerary — allows you to dine at any of a half a dozen restaurants on your grandkids' schedule. The Kid’s Café, in fact, has kid-size furniture and a buffet at children's height.

Cruising Tips
Before you sign up for a cruise, make sure that the children's programs you are interested in are offered on that itinerary.
Consider bringing walkie-talkies (and plenty of extra batteries) to keep in touch with your grandkids during the day.
Don't forget to tip the youth counselors who help entertain your grandchildren aboard ship.
