Super Ship No. 7: The Oosterdam

Classy kitchens for kids' lessons in cooking, digital workshops for you

By Ludmilla Alexander

The Oosterdam heads the Australia and New Zealand in winter, and Alaska in summer. While the Holland America ship is at sea, grandkids can take hands-on cooking lessons in the Culinary Arts Center, an area that resembles the kitchens on cooking shows. The Loft, a teens-only lounge, is the place for karaoke, video games, trivia contests, and talent shows. You can learn to share your vacation memories in free digital workshops.

Cruising Tips

Before you sign up for a cruise, confirm that the children's programs you are interested in are offered on that itinerary.

Consider bringing walkie-talkies (and plenty of extra batteries) to keep in touch with your grandkids during the day.

Don't forget to tip the youth counselors who help entertain your grandchildren aboard ship.
