Ouch…
Today my oldest daughter is taking a trip to the dentist. She has to have 4 permanent teeth pulled. (allegedly) I don’t want to take her! She got braces earlier this year and the orthodontist recommended this drastic procedure.
The dentist called yesterday to say that they’ll probably just do one or two teeth today, which means she’ll be going back at least once more and possibly three more times!
I've been telling her it’s no big deal, I had to get teeth pulled when I was young. But inside I’m sad, she’s working so hard at school, she’s growing so fast and I just hate that she has to have ANY pain inflicted on her at all.
I guess we could just let her teeth be crooked and she probably wouldn’t appreciate that much either when she’s in college, right?
Tell me about your relationship with the dentist. Are you someone who dreads going? Or are you one of those that gets your teeth cleaned religiously every 6 months and has still never had a cavity?
What about your grandchildren? Have they taken their first trip to the dentist yet? What are some of the things you say to comfort them or help create a healthy attitude toward this necessary ritual?
I'm off to buy milkshake and smoothie ingredients for my little girl.
