Air Show
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

Sunday we spent the day at the air show with Matyas and his parents. Matyas loves airplanes so we thought this would be a fun day and it was.

Matyas wore head phones just like his Grandpa was wearing to protect his ears. He was awed by the big planes and the big noise they made. When they did  a repeat of Pearl Harbor ,complete with explosions, Matyas was yelling "oh no...Grandma...fire" I think he wanted me to go put out the fire. We were able to take him inside some of the big transport planes. He had a great day and we had another super day watching him see and learn new things.

I don't know if he will remember much about what we do together but I am sure we are creating some bonds that will last a lifetime. I know we as Grandparents are sure enjoying him.

Here is a picture of Matyas and his Great Grandma he calls "Nana" He loves to visit her. He gets to ride on the seat of her walker and push the elevator buttons.

We got to have Matyas for the weekend again. I met Josie half way and I took Matyas home with me. The weather was hot! We got to my house in time for lunch and a failed attempt at a nap. Then Matyas and I played cars while a little friend Johnathan visited.

Matyas and I went outside to the shady side of the house and turned on the sprinkler. That was fun. It really cooled us off. MAtyas played gardener and I watched.

Matyas decided he was Caillou! Ask him his name and he will now say he is Caillou. He loves Caillou so Grandma is going to try and get him a Caillou doll and maybe a DVD. He would not ansewr to Matyas! After dinner he said"Caillou all done!" He has a good imagination.

He went to sleep in about two minutes at bedtime. He was really tired. This heat makes you tired too.

Sunday we had a big day planned. We had breakfast and went to see Nana.(my Mom)

He told her he is Caillou. So today he is continuing his act!

We had fun at Nana's. She has a basket of toys and a nice deck to play on and it was cool there! After Nana's we went back to Grandma's and had lunch and a nap. After nap we went to the Marvista Park and rode bikes and played at the playground until Mommy and Daddy called to say they were leaving for the designated meeting place to get theis son back. We met them at Azteca and treated them to dinner for their 8th wedding anniversary.

At dinner Matyas informed his parents that he was Caillou.( I wonder who he is today?) We had a great dinner and Matyas ate real well! Then he and I played in the lobby of the restaurant for a while and had a great time. He decided to go ask Grandpa for quarters so he could buy a ball in the little machines. He got one with an airplane in it! His favorite thing!

Next week we are taking him to the McCord Air Force air show. We are bringing ear protectors. I hope he will enjoy it. Of course his parents can come too. I have never been to an air show so this will be fun for me too.

Fun with Matyas
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

This picture is of Matyas and his Mommy after his bath.

Another fun filled two days with Matyas.

Since I have the summer off I decided to spend two days each week with Matyas.I did get his parents permission before hand though. I go down usually on Tuesday morning and stay the night and come home Wednesday evening. This allows them to get a few things done that are hard to do while watching him.

Matyas and I played farm, cars, read stories, played kitty, and got rid of goombah! Goombah is statue his parents bought while in Hawaii a few years ago. He has suddenly become afraid of it. Grandma hid it and he seems to have relaxed a bit. He still tells us "no goombah" often during the day.

Matyas, Josie and I met one of Josie's friends at Capitol Lake and walked around it on Wednesday. I had to turn and go back because of knee pain but I enjoyed the outdoors. It was morning and cool. That afternoon got pretty hot so I am glad we got out while we could.

Matyas has been learning so much! He now says 'Not Today" whenever we try to get him to do something like eat, take a bath or get dressed. He plays the violin he imagined out of two small curtain rods. He also used the rods to twirl like the baton twirlers did at the parade. We had a parade around the house. He and I went to the basement and yelled to hear our echos. That was a lot of fun and it was cool down there. We hid in the closets but there was no one to find us so it got kind of boring after a while.

Matyas was ready for me to leave last night. Instead of pleading for me not to go he simply said Bye Bye Grandma. I like that better than the crying. He is getting older.

We get to have him this weekend. We will pick him up on Saturday morning and bring him back Sunday evening. His parents are celebrating their 8th wedding anniversary.

4th Of July, 2008
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

This was our first fourth of July with our little Grandson. We all went to a parade in Tumwater. His first real parade. He liked the fire trucks and the pretty princesses.

It was a great day. Not too hot and no rain!

We had a BBQ at Matyas's home and were planning to go to the fireworks display in Tumwater but Matyas didn't like the sounds of the fireworks going off around the neighborhood so we decided to stay home. We were all pretty tired anyway.

We did have lots of fun playing with Matyas. He likes to pretend now. He was pretending to be a cat.

The Gym
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

Today I went again to see my Grandson Matyas. We took his Mom with us and met up with some friends at the gym for open gym. This is a time set aside for kids to just play and bounce for an hour and a half. It was so much fun to watch. Matyas was a little shy at first but after about 5 minutes he was running all over and jumping and climbing. He played with his friend Merrritt who is just a few months older than he is.

After gym was over we went to lunch and home for a nap. It didn't take too long for any of the kids to get to sleep after all that exercise. Grandma needed a rest as well.

Super Saturday
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

Today we went to the Evergreen State college Super Saturday. It is a fair the college has the day after graduation each year. We decided to take a bus to save on gas and to save the parking hassle.

Matyas loves busses but has never been on one. Today was the day! His Dad and Grandpa got on first so they could pay and Matyas was not going to be left behind and he ran to get on the bus. Once on the bus he sat very still and smiled. He wouldn't move. He was in Awe. It was great! Of course we had to sing "The wheels on the Bus" with hand movements.

At the fair we had hot dogs and curly fries...all the forbidden foods.  Matyas kicked a soccer ball through a hole and won a Gateraid. He loved that although it turned his tongue blue. He got to go down a big gunny sack slide three times! He also got to go on the bouncy thing. He enjoyed that too. We enjoyed watching him look at everything.

On the way home Matyas fell asleep on the bus in his Daddy's arms. He slept through the transfer to the car and when they pulled up to their house he woke up and said "ALL DONE"  They carried him in and put him to bed.

Another fun day with the Grandson.

Matyas is two
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

A lot has happened since I last wrote. I had to quit for a while while I took care of my Mom who had a stroke. She is doing much better now so I have had a bit more time to do what I need to do.

During this time my little Matyas turned two! He is a real boy now! We had a small party on his actual birthday with just his Mom and Dad,my husband (Grandpa)and I and his other grandfather "Papa".

We had a nice dinner and a cake. Matyas doesn't get to eats sweets so this cake was really something special. He loved it.

We got him and pedal airplane. He loves airplanes so much that we thought it was fitting

Two weeks after his real birthday we had the big farm birthday with all his friends and family. There was a remote controlled airplane that flew over and dropped stuffed animals and candy down to the kids. It was great! Then his big cousin Jenny(Mason County Rodeo Queen) gave horse rides to anyone who wanted one. Matyas rode with his Dad. We had lots to eat and many presents for him to open. He really had a great time. I so much enjoyed watching him enjoy his big day. He got a little shy when we sang Happy Birthday but really loved the cake... again!

Chucky Cheese
C:\Documents and Settings\Juanita M. Bel

I went Friday to take my Matyas to dinner and play at Chucky Cheese. We had so much fun! I let him lead the way. He rode anything he wanted to as many times as he wanted. He loved putting the tokens in the slot. Each time the ride stopped he would look at me and use sign to tell me "more" so I would then give him another token.

He loves the horse and rode that several times. He hasn't had much luck with the games but enjoys trying. I also don't let him go into the hamster cage. He really hasn't showed much interest in that either.

We had pizza for dinner. He ate more than I did. He really enjoys being around other kids. He really doesn't play with them but he likes to watch them. Then he went on more rides. It was so much fun to watch him look around, spy something and make his way to it. You could just see his brain working. I loved the way he would look at me when I gave him another token. Several times he said "your welcome". I know he meant thank you but it was so cute.

On the way home we sang and made funny noises. He loves to do that. We saw a few busses and like always we had to sing "the wheels on the bus" each and every time....with hand motions.

I loved my DATE with Matyas! I plan on doing this again soon. Maybe not Chucky Cheese but we will continue to discover together. I love him more than air!

Today we get to take Matyas to the Childrens museum. My husband decided he missed Matyas so he wants to come too. This is nice because they need to spend more time together and Matyas could use a big kid to play with.

I talked with Matyas on the phone last night and he said Hi Grandma, I love you and bye! He is talking so much now. It is fun to be able to communicate with him.

Last week my daughter and I took him for a walk and eveytime he saw a bus he would say bus and then he would move his right arm in a circular motion. At first we thought he was waving but then we figured out that he was making the movements to the song "The wheels on the bus." I want to take him for a bus ride.

Last week we got to keep Matyas overnight. We took him to what we call now the airplane park. The park is right under the flight path and maybe a mile from the airport so the planes are really low and loud. I thought Matyas would be scared but he loved it. He cried when we left and was so worn out he fell asleep after eating just  eating 2 crackers of his lunch. The park has two soccer fields and he loved watching the kids kick that ball around. He wanted to go and get the ball but of course we didn't let him.

He has a facination with all things round. He got two sets of balls for Christmas that include basket ball, soccer ball, baseball and football. He has rejected both footballs! Not round! He loves only the round balloons. I got him a frog balloon but he really doesn't care about it too much.

We are sure enjoying him. We were just too busy to watch in such detail our own daughter grow. I stayed at home with her but then there was a house to clean and meals to prepare and all the things you need to deal with in keeping a home and business. Now I don't care if the house is not neat when I watch my grandson. The dishes will wait until he naps or goes home. I Love being a Grandma!

This blogging is new to me and I'm not sure exactly how to do it!

We had a wonderful Christmas with our Grandson Matyas (ma tee us)  It is his second Christmas but the first we are with him. He lived with his Mom and Dad in upstate New York until late August of this year when they all moved here. We live in Des Moines, Washington which is south of Seattle. Needless to say I made many, many trips to New York since he was born. I am not a flyer but this little boy has a strong pull which made me overcome my fear of flying.

This Christmas Matyas learned what gifts were all about. He had so much fun once he figured it out. He loved all his gifts and has been playing with them every day. We got him a tent with tubes to crawl through. He tried to get us in them too but we can't fit but we get in as far as we can which seems to satisfy him.

We got to babysit him an New Year's eve. What a joy! A great way to bring in the New Year! We had so much fun with him. It is so sweet to hear him say Grandma and Grandpa!

We see the airplanes from Sea Tac airport from our house and he loves to watch them. He waves at all of them. So we sat for almost an hour just waiting for airplanes to take off so we could wave.

Matyas went back to his place yesterday afternoon. Our home is empty without his chatter. I can't even put the toys away yet. I like the mess he makes.

I am going to see him again on Friday. They only live 46 miles away so it is not too far.
