The Ultimate Guide to Grandparent Names

We have every name you can possibly think of, and then some. Pick yours!

by The Editors

Choosing your grandparent name — you know, the one you want your grandkids to call you — can be almost as challenging as it was to select your own kids' names. Coauthors Lin Wellford and Skye Pifer's new book, The New Grandparents Name List, a Lighthearted Guide to Picking the Perfect Grandparent Name (ArtStone Press, 2009),
could help ease the process. We organized the grandmother names and grandfather names into traditional categories, then into lists that cover trendy monikers, playful and personality-based designations, and international terms. So, start scanning and post a comment below to let us know if there's a different moniker you embrace.

My older grandchildren (all teens) call me NaNa (like nawnaw), but my little 3 yr old granddaughter calls me NaNa Darling.

My sweet Gavin calls me Gigi! It stands for G.G. = Gorgeous Grandma! Of course, at not-quite-three, it comes out Yee-Yee most of the time, but I love it just the same!!

My granddaughters call my husband and myself different names. Hailey (4 years old) calls me Amma and my husband is Grampa.
Joline, (2 years old) calls me Mrama (rhymes with Gramma) and my husband is called Bapa.

Most of my Grandkids call me 'Grandma", but one calls me "Jimma" which she started at 2 years old (she's 13 now) when she couldn't pronounce Grandma.

My grandchildren call me Grandma, but they gave my husband the name Paca.
