When pajamas are the attire of the day, make the time at home more than just about watching TV

As much as we try to steer clear of dreaded germs, chances are that every so often, your grandchild will come down with something while in your care. Since grandparents have the gift of making everything all better, we know that you know what to do to bring down the fever and make the little patient more comfortable. Here are a few handy ideas to make that sick day fly by for you as well.

Handmade Get-Well Cards
Having your sick grandchild create get-well cards for others who are ill is a great way to help him feel better and take his mind off his own ailment. Youngsters are quick to empathize with the feelings and well-being of other kids.

Silly "Sick" Book
Staple pages of plain paper together and have your grandchild create a silly “sick” book or journal. Your grandchild can illustrate how she feels, what foods she is eating, things she is doing while recovering, and what she plans to do when she is well. Be sure to date it and hold onto it as a keepsake. This activity serves as a way for grandchildren to think about their illness in a lighthearted way and look forward to their recovery.

Colorful Carnations
Let your grandchild create a bouquet of custom get-well flowers for herself. Place a white-carnation stem under running water and cut about one inch off the bottom. Put food dye of any color in a vase with warm water and place the carnation in the vase. This mini science lesson will amaze your grandchild when the carnation drinks up the colored water and changes color.
