Valentine's Day Candy Posy

Delight your grandkids with a craft that’s easy to make — and involves candy

by Elizabeth Semrai

Candy and flowers are the most popular and fun Valentine's Day gifts; combine the two with this witty, pretty craft.

Materials:

  • Lollipops (one for each posy)
  • Red, pink, white, and green construction paper
  • Ribbon
  • Gift tags
  • Glitter
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Clear tape

Instructions:

  1. Place our shape template on a sheet of white paper and cut out the heart (petal) and leaf shapes. Get the template.
  2. Trace the heart on a sheet of construction paper three times; cut out three hearts. For a colorful flower, use different color paper for each heart.
  3. Trace the leaf on the green construction paper twice; cut out two leaves.
  4. Use a hole punch to make a hole near the bottom of each heart and the two leaves.
  5. Fold the hearts in half vertically. Then fold the bottom edge of each just above the hole.
  6. Fold the edge of each leaf up just above the hole.
  7. To assemble the flower: Insert the stem of the lollipop in the hole of each petal and leaf. You may want to trim the wrapper of the lollypop to better fit the petals and leaves.
  8. Secure the paper under the lollypop wrapper with a piece of clear tape.
  9. Holding the lollypop in one hand, with the other hand, gently gather the petals and the leaves to the lollipop. This will make it look like a posy.
  10. Tie the ribbon to the bottom of the lollipop wrapper. This will also help secure the petals and leaves.
  11. Use craft glue to spell out a saying or name; then sprinkle with glitter, and allow to dry.
  12. Punch a hole in the gift tag, attach it to the ribbon and tie in a bow.
