A tall oatmeal canister makes a sturdy base for this festive craft. Change up the colors of the paper and streamers, and this windsock can add a little cheer and color to any season, occasion, or holiday.
Materials:
Cylindrical oatmeal container
Scissor
Construction paper
Glue
One-hole punch
Streamers
Directions:
1. Cut the bottom off a cylindrical cardboard oatmeal container. (You will not need the lid.) Cover the container with yellow, green, orange, or brown construction paper. Add themed stickers and other decorations if desired. Kids can also decorate the construction paper before wrapping the canister. (For a sturdier windsock, laminate the paper at a local copy store or do it yourself using clear adhesive shelf liner.)
2. Cut streamers into strips and staple or glue them so that they hang from the bottom of the canister.
3. Punch four evenly spaced holes along the top of the canister.
4. Cut two pieces of string about a foot long. Tie the strings through the holes (tie the opposite ends of a string to holes on opposite sides of the cylinder). Tie a longer piece of string to the smaller pieces — you'll hang the windsock from this piece of string. Hang outside for a colorful seasonal accent.
