A Well-Rounded Table

The old and new, meet at author Judy Bart Kancigor’s Passover table

by Elizabeth S. Bennett

Judy Bart Kancigor, author of Cooking Jewish, 532 Great Recipes From the Rabinowitz Family (Workman, 2007), spends every Passover with her two sons, their wives and four grandkids, who range in age from 3 to 11. Kancigor’s 90-year-old mother, Lillian Bart, is the Seder matriarch and contributes some of her signature Passover dishes.

With four generations at the table, old favorites, such as Kancigor’s grandmother’s Passover nut cake, mingle with new ones. “I like to have a lot of tradition,” Kancigor explains, “but enough new things to shake it up.”

Continue to the recipes: Lillian Bart's Chicken Soup, Shiitake Mushroom Matzo Balls, Easy Brisket for Every Holiday, Sephardic Chicken, Matzo Stuffing, Beet Eingemacht (Preserves), Pecan Cookies, and Hinda's Passover Nut Cake
