Our Top 10 Reader-Submitted Recipes

We count down the tastiest dishes ever shared by Grandparents.com readers

by Kristen Sturt

Since Grandparents.com launched in 2007, we’ve received hundreds of recipe submissions from food-loving readers like you, dozens of which we’ve featured in our fabulous Food Newsletter, published every two weeks. Now, after careful consideration and a ludicrous amount of cooking, we’ve narrowed those dishes down to our top 10. Try them at home, and don’t forget to read future editions of that Food Newsletter, delivering home-cooked favorites shared by grandparents just like you.

10. Absolutely World's Best Meatloaf
Heinz Chili Sauce is the secret ingredient in this crowd-pleasing comfort food, submitted by Carol R. of Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

9. French Potato Salad
Do your grandkids hate mayonnaise? Olympia, Washington’s own Polly R. has the potato salad for them, packed with green beans, cubed chicken breast, and lots of dill-infused deliciousness.

8. Baklava
Grandma Ila P.’s twist on traditional baklava uses simple syrup instead of honey, along with a delectable combination of three different nuts – pistachios, almonds, and walnuts.

7. Yankee Chili
Shared by reader Kathleen P., this surprisingly light dish didn’t just win a Texas church chili cook-off – it won our hearts and taste buds, too.

6. Panzanella Salad
Celebrate the last days of summer with this bread, tomato, and white bean concoction, submitted by reader Erica B. of Fairfield, Connecticut.

5. French Toast Casserole
If cinnamon, sugar, vanilla, raisins, and walnuts aren’t enough for you, Ridgefield, Connecticut grandmother Marilyn suggests drenching this special-occasion casserole with real maple syrup to put it over the top.

4. Zucchini Muffins
From reader Carol W. of Magnolia, Mississippi, these sizable, pecan-packed treats are double threats: They’ll satisfy an army of grandkids AND get rid of all that homegrown zucchini.

3. Unstuffed Pepper Casserole
After testing this recipe from Lynn M. of Indianapolis, it immediately became part of our Food Editor’s dinnertime rotation. “It freezes beautifully and the leftovers are outrageous,” she says.

2. Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Bites
When it comes to appetizers, grandmother Phyllis K. of Virginia knows what people like. Here’s a hint: It begins with "b" and ends with "acon."

1. Chocolate Brownie Cake
Not only does reader Marky O.’s recipe make the biggest cake we’ve ever seen, but the Grandparents.com staff polished it off in the space of a single meeting. Make it for your grandkids, and see if they don’t do the same.

There were so many great reader-submitted recipes, it was tough to narrow our list to just 10. Want more? Whip up these other delicious reader-submitted dishes, brought to you by the Grandparents.com Food Newsletter:
