Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce

Serve this wholesome cranberry sauce on your Thanksgiving table

by Kristen Sturt

From The Kids Cook Monday, “Maple syrup sweetens tart cranberries as orange juice, cinnamon and cloves deepen the flavors of this bright holiday sauce. Kids will delight in watching the cranberries pop while they stir the sauce in this modern take on a Thanksgiving classic.”

Ingredients:
3 oranges
24 ounces fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over
1 cup golden raisins
1 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions:
Adult: Zest one of the oranges. Cut all of the oranges in half for juicing.

Kid: Juice the oranges until you have 1/2 cup juice, taking care to remove the orange seeds.

Together: Place a 4 quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the cranberries, raisins, maple syrup, orange juice and 1/2 cup water to the pan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the cranberries begin to pop.

Kid: Season the sauce with cinnamon and cloves. Sprinkle in the orange zest, reserving a few teaspoons for garnish. Stir, bring back to a rolling simmer and turn heat down to medium.

Adult: Continue cooking for another 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes and transfer to a serving dish.

Kid: Garnish the cranberry sauce with the reserved orange zest and enjoy!
