Pasta with Cheese and Broccoli Trees

Dont you wish pasta grew on trees? This is the next best thing.

by Kristen Sturt

From The Kids Cook Monday, “Delicate angel hair pasta comes is delicious coated in with zesty garlic and salty parmesan cheese in this crowd pleaser. Kids will have fun separating the head of broccoli into florets resembling tiny trees.”

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons olive oil
2-4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon butter (optional)
1 large bunch broccoli
1 box (16 ounces) angel hair pasta
1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Adult: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

Adult: Heat the olive oil and butter, if using, in a frying pan over medium high heat. Add the garlic to the pan and sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

Kid: Pull the florets or “trees” off of the head of broccoli and transfer to a bowl. Reserve the broccoli’s stem.

Adult: Peel the broccoli’s stem and chop it finely. Add the broccoli’s florets, stem and the angel hair pasta to the pot. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the pasta is just cooked through. Drain well and transfer to a large serving bowl.

Together: Toss the pasta and broccoli with the garlic olive oil mixture and grated parmesan, taking care to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
