At first glance, Gwyneth Paltrow’s first cookbook,
My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness
(Grand Central Life & Style, 2011), is sleek and unfailingly tasteful, much like the Oscar-winner herself. But a deeper read reveals something more — a warm, family-oriented, highly personal guide to eating simply and well with loved ones.
The book is inspired by Paltrow's father, Bruce, the Hollywood producer-director who passed away in 2002. It includes 150 recipes Gwyneth Paltrow loves, from childhood favorites to new dishes created in her own kitchen, all using simple techniques and wholesome ingredients. Sprinkled with stories of Gwyneth’s own adventures and misadventures – both culinary and celebrity — it’s a fun read, to boot.
Paltrow dedicates the book to many friends and family members, but especially her children, Apple and Moses, whom she calls the "hearts of my artichoke, my raisins d’etre." It's a sweet reminder that food does more than sustain – it seats different generations at the same table.
