When Grace Paik decided to involve her kids in cooking, she made it quite the production. Paik had the cookware, but this mother of invention quickly realized she needed the costuming, and the Cafe Apron for young chefs was born. To instill the message of healthy eating, she designed colorful sushi and sashimi patterns, making the four-pocket version simultaneously serious and playful. (The sushi version even has the names and descriptions of the rolls.) Best of all, says Paik, getting little ones involved in cooking early on is a good way to avoid the picky-eater syndrome. "When they are part of the process, they want to eat what they prepare," she laughs. Bring on the edamame, Granny.
