Precious Planet Happy Giraffe Bouncer

Fun for baby? |
This safari-theme, musical bouncer is like a tiny amusement park, though one mother described it as more of a psychadelic experience for babies (in a good way!). The Precious Planet Happy Giraffe Bouncer has a removable toy bar that plays animal sounds plus two different songs for entertaining, and the D battery-powered vibration system almost always calms a cranky baby. Assembling this bouncer wasn't quick or easy — it required one do-over — and though the thin metal legs seem less sturdy than others, it's still a trusty, cushy, and delightful option for babies.

Maclaren Rocker
Easy to assemble?
Afforable? |
Portable for travel?
Look/Design: |
Fun for baby? |
A lightweight frame and easy fold-up are a major plus if you're moving a baby bouncer from room to room; however, our tester-mom, Twyla, found some of the Maclaren Rocker's pieces flimsy and fragile. Assembly was easy, though; the fabric durable, and the vibrating feature was perfect, but the size of the chair was too big for her average-weight, 4-month-old daughter, Sloane. "The five-point harness totally consumes her, and the toy bar is too far away (for her to reach)," said Twyla, and added that it would make a great beach chair, minus the weak toy bar, when Sloane gets a little older.

Svan Bouncer
Easy to assemble?
Afforable? |
Portable for travel?
Look/Design: |
Fun for baby? |
The Svan Bouncer is a low-tech, alternative to popular, battery-powered bouncers, with their sound effects and vibrations. The sleek, modern-looking Svan is made of natural wood and cloth, and packaged in a few pieces that are easy to snap together. The bouncing feature depends on you: There is a footboard in the rear, on which you tap your toe and create a smooth, soothing, and serene rocking motion. Our favorite features on this bouncer are the ease with which you can fold it up and take it on the road, and the placement of the toy hooks on the side, not on a giant toy bar that obstructs baby's line of vision.

The First Years Kickin' Coaster
Easy to assemble?
Afforable? |
Portable for travel?
Look/Design: |
Fun for baby? |
In its stationary position, The First Years Kickin' Coaster is an innovative bouncer that can soothe a baby with vibration and twinkling lights, and also encourage activity with a neat kickboard. When the baby presses her feet on the bouncer's kickplate, the chair glides back, and depending on which mode it's in, lights up and plays music. The only major drawback on this bouncer is an almost fully-reclined seat that can't be tilted upright, but our tester-mom loved the depth of the seat, how the three-point harness kept her daughter in place, and the fun activity it encourages.
