High Chair Roundup

We evaluate high chairs — the simple and the sophisticated

Our reviews

Fisher-Price Rainforest Healthy Care High Chair

Combining utility and entertainment, the Fisher Price Rainforest Healthy Care High Chair has standard features like a three-point harness system, a removable tray that you can detach with one hand, and locking wheels. It also has lights, music, toys, and sound. This might seem unnecessary at feeding time, but could come in handy while you're cooking or loading the dishwasher. Aside from its bells and whistles, this is a decent, inexpensive high chair that will get you through those first 18 months of feeding.

Kuster K1

The Kuster K1 is one of the coolest-looking high chairs we've seen, and it's functional, too. The five-point harness is a huge plus, and even though it looks a little heavy in the front, the design is sturdy, so there's no topsy-turvy feel to it. We like the adjustable footrest and its ability to fold up and stow away when your grandchild isn't visiting. Its only real drawback is the hefty price, which we think has more to do with its looks than with its practical features.

Graco Blossom 4-in-1 Seating System

This "seating system" by Graco is built to grow along with your grandchild. The Blossom 4-in-1 Seating System can convert to a toddler booster-seat, and "youth chair" as babies get older. Our tester-dad said it was a cinch to put together, keep clean, and move around. The Blossom is in the midrange price level, but considering how long this chair will last, it's definitely the biggest value for your buck.

Evenflo Expressions Plus High Chair

This is probably one of the least expensive high chairs you can buy without sacrificing safety or quality. The Evenflo Expressions Plus High Chair lacks all frills, which is perfect for grandparents who want a basic high chair. It features a three-point harness system, one-handed release for the food tray, and caster wheels. It also folds up easily between visits.

Boon Inc. Flair

The Boon Inc. Flair high chair looks sleek, and its design is breathtakingly innovative. Instead of multiple parts that are screwed together, the high chair is made of molded plastic that sits on top of a pneumatic lift, like a barber's chair. It also has a five-point harness and caster wheels with a braking system that locks the chair in place. It's a little pricier than most high chairs, but with an easily adjustable height and its ability to slide under tables, it can last through your grandchild's toddler years — and look great the whole time.
