Elmo and Abby’s Birthday Fun
Elmo’s little fish, Dorothy, is celebrating her birthday, and Elmo and Abby's Birthday Fun shows us all the kinds of fun Elmo has planned for her. Norman Lear TV Collection
Norman Lear is the mind behind some of TV's best-known and edgy sitcoms, including All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Maude, Good Times, One Day at a Time, and Sanford and Son. You can now find all these shows in this box set, the Norman Lear TV Collection. Lear’s creations pushed issues that were ahead of their time for TV — they included open talk about race, sex, poverty, and crime — topics that TV sitcoms hadn't dealt with previously, and they did it with a sense of humor to punctuate the drama. Definitely for older grandchildren, this set is a fascinating look at how one man changed the face of television. Sony Pictures, Not Rated

Valkyrie
Valkyrie, an intense film (it received undeservedly bad reviews) features Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. The Colonel had led a failed plot to assassinate Hitler in the waning days of World War II. The stellar cast includes Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson, and Terence Stamp. Spring for the two-disc set, which includes a digital copy, and extras like a documentary about the actual historical events of the assassination plot and its participants. The movie is probably best-suited for older children who have studied World War II in class. Just be sure to brush up on your own history lessons beforehand so you can answer any questions they might have about the film and the events it portrays. United Artists, PG-13
