Power Wheels Barbie Ford Mustang
by Chris Byrne
A cool set of wheels for the littlest drivers
This pink (of course) Ford Mustang replica is a battery-powered car that kids can drive themselves. It has room for two kids in the front seat, and lots of great Barbie accents and plenty of shiny “chrome.”
It’s designed for cruising on the sidewalk or paved playground and will go up to 4 mph. Did we mention the “radio” that plays pre-recorded music and cool engine-revving sounds?
Why it’s fun
People used to think that only boys liked to drive. Wrong! Little girls love being behind the wheel, and they love having a car designed just for them. The pink color implies “no boys allowed,” and driving is still one of the top role-play activities for kids in this age group.
Who’s going to love it
What kid doesn’t want to have their own car? Seriously, this is for little girls who would love to tool up and down the sidewalk. (The Barbie branding is fairly subtle, so even if a girl isn’t a hardcore Barbie player, she’ll enjoy having her own pink Mustang.)
This is for kids who are old enough to understand the concept of driving, but still small enough to think that it’s cool to be going along at a relatively slow pace.
What grandparents should know
This is expensive. And, it takes up a lot of space. Still, how cool is it for a kid to have a car that she keeps with the grandparents? The challenge with these things is storage. It simply may not be practical to keep it at your house.
Still, kids love it! And, it’s a big gift that’s likely to be remembered.
What to be aware of
Kids should always be supervised when they ride these cars. It can’t go that fast, but you’ll want to stay close by.
