Artsy grandparents will want to take their grandchildren to Purple Hippo Art Studio for a lesson in free-form creativity. The Open Art Studio welcomes drop-ins, offering a "salad bar" of arts-and-crafts supplies and plenty of room to make a mess on behalf of art. If your grandchildren are into 3-D art, the studio also sells several ready-to-decorate crafts, such as plain wooden frames, papier-mache boxes, and wooden dinosaurs. An art teacher stands by in case anyone needs a little help with their muse (or Mod Podge). “Mommy and Me” classes guide an adult and child through a directed art project. Bonus: Any wet art can be left at the studio for up to a month for later pickup.
