Like most things in Boston, this museum has a deep history. It opened on July 4, 1876 with a collection of 5,600 pieces of art; the museum now welcomes more than 1 million visitors a year, and houses almost 450,000 works, including ancient Egyptian sculptures and contemporary photography. Note: You and your grandchildren (ages 4 and older) can take advantage of the Family Place cart, a moving kiosk that offers fun activities and projects for kids and grandparents to take into the various galleries and work on together. The Family Place is available Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm.  Find out  more about it at the Sharf information desk.

Info: Adults $17, seniors and students $15, children 7 to 17 $6.50, 6 and younger and members free
