In the mid-1980s, a renaissance began taking place in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. The opening of the outdoor Westfield Horton Plaza shopping mall was a crucial part of this movement. Its multi-level contemporary (some say whimsical, some say confusing) design is fascinating and fun. You and your grandchildren will have a blast wandering all the nooks, crannies and random dead-ends. The mall features major department stores (Macy’s, Nordstrom), high-end and mid-level shops, a pleasurable food court level and a 14-screen U.A. movie theatre. And if you want to go more upscale, you can head to across the street to The Paladion, which features Rodeo Drive staples like Tiffany & Co., Gucci and Cartier.
