Mount Tamalpais ("Mount Tam") is a peak just north of San Francisco, often considered symbolic of Marin County, which it looms over. The view from the top of the mountain is incredible; you and your grandchildren can see the Farallon Islands in the sea, the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco and, on a clear day, even Mount Diablo 150 miles away. It's a beautiful place teeming with wildlife that sits only a few miles from downtown San Francisco. There are plenty of trails for hiking and biking, but just enjoying a picnic here is more than enough adventure.
