Too see something that looks like it was cut from a page of your grandchild’s favorite storybook, find the enchanting carousel on the National Mall, situated right in front of the equally whimsical Smithsonian castle. The carousel itself is a national treasure, hand-carved in 1904 and acquired by the Smithsonian in the 1960s, the ride is still in regular operation and young grandchildren will be delighted to ride one of the intricately detailed wooden animals, such as a rabbit, cat, or the old standard horse.
