My grandparents name is Nana. Abby already has Grandma's, MeMe's and Maw Maw's. I also felt that at 40 I was to old to be called Grandma or Granny. So thats why I am Nana.

I am "Nonnie," which is an Italian "grandmother name" and one from our family's heritage. Of course, my daughter's son (now six months) and my son's child-to-be (due in August!) aren't speaking yet .. so it may change! And I won't care as long as they call out to me!

My g'kids are all from "blended" families, and as a result have lots of grandparents and great grandparents, both legal and assumed. All the men are "poppa" ,followed by some version of their first name. Therefore, I became "Poppa 'Teven".

Becomming " Gramdma " at the age of 38 wasn't exactly my life's plan. But I wouldn't change it at all. When decideing on what I wanted to be called, I went back to what I called both of my gm's which was - " Ma ". So I just added to that and the out come was : " MawMaw "

My grandparent name is "Tudie". My younger brothers couldn't say "Susie" early on and I was Tudie to them for years. Since my mother is still alive, her greatgrandchildren still call her Gramma so I elected to stay with the old family nickname of Tudie.

My grandkids call me "Mimi." When my first granddaughter started talking, she seemed to have trouble saying "gr" sounds. I tried "Grandma," then "Grandmom," with no success. Finally, I said "Grandmommy," and she responded with "Mimi." I loved it.

My oldest grandchild has apraxia and speaking was hard for him to develope at an early age. It was easier to teach him to say Nana and PopPop. Now I have 5 grandchildren and they all call us that.

I too am 'Nana' as my maternal grandmother that I adored was the same. However, my Husband is "Pop-Pop" after my friend's father who was always Pop-Pop to his grandkids. He was a beautiful, kind, loving man and in his memory Pop-pop lives on!
