New Grandson has minor club feet!

We just found out today that our new grandson (born 4/29/08) has club feet. My daughter and son in law are upset and scared about this but know that it is treatable and that it could be worse. He is perfect in every other way! THere is a long process called The Ponseti Method....this is castings every week to "reset" the feet. After the casting which you go through 5 times they will wear a brace bar for 3 months constantly then after that only at night. I have researched and like I said this is treatable and it will work out. It is just so hard to see my daughter going though this. I am hoping that I can hold up and be strong for her. Just wanted to let you know that my son was born with mild club feet (almost 34 years ago). We did not do the casts, we did exercises and special shoes etc., they have come up with so many new medical breakthroughs. we were told he would probably not walk or run normal, butbecuse we did everything they told us to do, he did not walk or run normal, he actually was above average, he went on to play soccer in college on full scholarship and was drafted and played professional soccer. So hang in there follow doctors directions. Continue to be a strong support.
Marni I wanted to share with you that everything is going to be ok. My son was born with this 37 years ago, and with the help of a very good doctor he was able to do anything that other kids did and still does. He started out with cases when he was only a few days old. Now you really have to look close to his feet to see the difference. I even kept some of those small casts. I know it is heart breaking and they will get some really crazy comments like Oh how did he/she break their leg?
Our doctor would take him out of the casts and give us instructions on how to exercise the feet. Good luck and if I could give any advise it would be to take your doctors advise and continue doing what you are doing. It will all work out.
