Each of my grandchildren have a decorated cigar box that we use for "special treasures". These are things we find as we walk around: acorns, pinecones, unusual twigs, peebles of different colors, birds feathers. Anything we find that hits the eye as "special". We make a journal of all the different kinds of leaves we see. Putting the date and name of the leaf on the page. My oldest grandson is 9yo and I still encourage this activity. The kids love it and I treasure their little boxes.

We live in South Central IL. so we are close to New Salem where Abe Lincoln was a young man. We always visit there in the spring and fall..it is beautiful with all the fall colors and the kids love it. I have nine grandchildren ranging from 11 to 1 yr. and we also use cookie cutters to celebrate the holidays and seasons. I let the kiddos make the dough and then cut out the biscuts in the shapes that we want...leaves, pumpkins, crows, acorns and such. They cut them out and Grandma bakes them. We have them with our meals and the kids have a ball, so do I! We have flour on the floor, our clothes, our hair and faces, but they have such a great time. When we are gone from this earth, they will divide up those cookie cutters and remember the great times in Granny's kitchen. I am sure that they will pass this tradition on to their kids and grands too!

I just love the cookie cutter story. Memories, that is my favorite part of being a Nana. I love baking as well, Apple Crisp, Apple Pies and turnovers. I have 3 of my grandchildren living with us (mom is here too) and I love watching them peel apples. They feel so accomplished when they can peel the whole thing and not break the skin. And walks, we have 6 1/2 acres of natural habitates and you never know what you will see. Yes, we have black bears too. We are very careful and they know not to wander off alone. Isn't life great.

This morning my daughter, 2 year old grandson and myself went to pick apples. My grandson was fascinated with the apples being on the tree.
When my granddaughters, now teenagers, were little we used to make a great big pile of leaves and dive into them. Of course my knees and back were in better shape then.

My girls are 2 and 3. We go apple picking. There is a place here in Schoharie NY called Terrace Mountain. We go on a tractor drawn wagon ride to the picking area. The kids love it they can run and use up a lot of energy and get great tasting apples to boot. The whole day is fun. We come back to Grandma and Pop Pops house for dinner and cider and donuts. It is a great time for all. My son and his wife also go so it is a family affair. This is our 2nd year of doing it and I am sure it is something that will happen every year.

I have my memories now that we have retired in TN and all but one grandchild who is a Marine stationed in NC, live in LA. Every fall we would get my two children and the 7 grandchildren between them together for a weiner roast in our wooded back yard over a camp fire. We would have all the fixins' for hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, and marshmallows for Smores. Everyone always looked forward to our October cookout which had to occur with the first nip in the air.

Actually, my birthday falls in the fall. No matter what I do... I always take that day off and spend it with my grandgirls. Sometimes we go to the zoo, then McDonalds, sometimes we go to a movie... sometimes we even go to the pumpkin patch. It doesn't really matter WHAT we do, as long as we spend it togehter. One of my girls was born 3 days before my 50th so it works out just fine. We always look for ward it that one day we spend the day together... NO WORK,,, NO PHONES....

We love to go to out local Metro Park for a horse drawn hay ride thru the beautiful fields of color and nature trails. They also have a halloween walk thru the woods of numerous lighted displays. We all love to walk at night on the trails and take pictures. At the end of the trail there is always hot chocolate and cookies, hot popcorn and other goodies. We all love this time of year!! Oh Yeah, we leave MOM & DAD at home and just take the grandkids/

We love to go to our local "Pumpkin Farm" - in fact the same one I took my children to years ago - We usually come home loaded up with all size pumpkins too. Tons of picture opportunities there, a maze, places to see the animals, feed the animals, a little train ride, and a hay ride too.
