| The most important thing is to interact with your grandbabies verbally. They need to hear language to develop language. Using sign language paired with spoken language is good also. It gives babies a visual reinforcement and helps them to communicate at an earlier age.

| This has always been a heated conversation in my family. I do not believe in baby talk and it has paid off. I had 3 daughters that had a vocabulary of a ten year old by the time they were 4. Due to the death of my oldest daughter I have raised my grand daughter since she was 7 months old. She is now 4 and everyone comments on how smart she is and her ability to carry conversation with adults. Even cashier at the grocery counter yesterday commented on how bright she is. I have a cousin who insisted that her children didn't need "to grow up that fast". She spoke baby talk to them till they were more than 5 years old. No one could understand anything they said. As result they struggled in school for several years. My mother taught me this way and so I never used it with my girls and I have always been proud of their vocal abilities. They were also very happy, well adjusted children.

| I detest baby talk! How can a baby learn to talk right if what they hear is wrong? My mother in law talks like that around my grandbabies all the time and it drives me crazy. In fact I babysit one of my grand daughters all the time and her verbal skills are above average, she looks at her GG and corrects her speach all the time! It's gotten to the point where shes tired of it and just tells her to go away. I can't believe shes so dense that she doesn't get it and gives up the baby talk. My brother in laws kids are around GG all the time and they have alot of problems pronouncing different words because of it. Baby talk is ok I guess until they start trying to say words then it's a absolute NO NO!
