We usually have something fun planned to do, sometimes a trip to the zoo and sometimes just a trip for ice cream, but we don't tell them until we are in the car and out of the driveway. Once we didn't tell them we were camping until we pulled into the campsite and they saw the camper all set up and ready to go. Teresa (6) and Julius (3) really look forward to the surprises and try to pry the secret out of us; which can't be done!

Since we are raising two of our precious grandchildren who are nine and six, it is not as easy to surprise as before they lived with us, but we try everyday to have at least one surprise whether it is something we purchased for them, a favorite place to go, or just a family fun night. They are so appreciative of time spent with them and we try hard to make each day memorable and special. They are our very special loves.

Two of our grandchildren live in Michigan and four of our grandchildren live two blocks from us so sometimes it is very hard to plan surprises for them when we all get together we generally go to the zoo or to the Indianapolis children’s museum or the State museum because there is always something different going on. Then when we are alone we try to do scavenger hunts with one dollar surprises at the end of the hunt (they like the dollar surprise just as well as the big surprise) because we are laughing and running around together.

Well I have 4 grandchildren, 2 girls one 9 and the other 7. Then two boys one 18 months and the other 3 months. So most of the surprises go to the girls, only because its hard to surprise the boys yet...However the girls think everytime they see poppop there should be a surprise...and there usually is...they have old poppop pretty well programed LOL. Its never anything big, its a book, or a water gun,or a trip to Friendly's for lunch and ice cream, or somestimes its pizza, somestimes a new kids movie they would like to see.. They love to stay overnight on week-ends because they know that Grammy and Poppop are kinda more lax then Mom & Dad..Overnight ususlly means dinner out, pop corn and a movie when we get home, and a special breakfast in the morning which they like to help with.....their favorite is pan cakes with holes ( Waffles ) and sunny side up eggs., bacon or sausage, orange juice. These are things we all love to do......not all necessarly surprises but usually a surprise pops in somewhere. You might say I got them right where THEY want me. LOL And finally I will add, that I have a T-Shirt that says "Being a poppop is the best job I ever had." Grand children are the greatest.

I surprise my grandson, who is 10, by ordering a book for him and having it sent directly to him. He loves to read!

I surprise them in small ways, which they love. We live in a 3 bedroom house so we have made a special bedroom for each of our 2 grandchildren. I try to always have a small gift on their bed when they come to visit. Sometimes it may be just stickers or some kind of craft we can do together. Sometimes it's a picture I have taken of them doing something fun, framed and sitting on their desk. They are so very special to me and are the only grandchildren I will ever have.

Hello Grands!! I'm Simplyshy/Sandy ....Talking From The Heart..under Love& Relationships.. Wanted each of you to know you have awesome things to surprise your grandchildren with , with my 12 and twin girls due in early Sept. ha. I know and have just about mastered the art of surprise with them and can't afford a lot so I make them.. not hard to do. I made a dollhouses out of cardboard boxes and you cannot tell it at all. And the furniture some made and some one bought... a large castle out of the same with 4 high towers and you can walk around the top part where the towers are with doorway and windows and I glued each fake brick on One by One... yeah it took a bit ,but fun, made a checkers board out of an old painting and use decopague for it and thick cardboard for the checkers and made the crowns and glued and decopagued them also.... sock puppets with a dust mops head. have you ever seen a naked dust mop head... not too pretty..ha, made them each aprons , they can cook, bake, and decorate cakes and cupcakes and I play solomon in this for cupcakes they each have their own color liners, bowls each for icing and also for sprinkles and their own platters they also have to clean up their messes , I draw things they want put it on my printer ,copier and copy it a dozen or more times and we color , paint and they love making the old fashioned popcorn way ... remember when we stood at the stove with our moms and the popcorn started poping in the skillet with a glass lid . first time they screamed at it and went and told their friends all about it .. they also have rock star night when they spend the night. we have a fake microphone and we turn the music on and they perform in a raised area like a stage and they love it , also they take pictures with my kodak dig. camera and I let them develop them on my kodak printer all in one and they have their own albumn each.. I think I better shut up now .. thanks Simplyshy

Well,my GC are 2-and-a-half and 8 months, so anything I do that's out of their usual routine is a "surprise" for them. Then again, at these ages, so much is new, that little is a surprise in the way it is for older kids :-).
