The Walgreens Balance Rewards program
lets you earn in several ways. Some weekly specials generate instant store credit and others add points to your total balance
(more on that in a minute). Bloggers say those instant rewards can be used, well, instantly – all you need to do is split your shopping cart into more than one purchase
However, if the store credit is used to buy the same weekly special that generated it, you won’t get a second reward. That’s why savvy shoppers are very careful about how they split up their orders.
For example, you might use the $3 instant reward generated by a bottle of lotion to buy a tube of toothpaste, then use the $2 toothpaste reward toward another bottle of that lotion – which in turn will result in another $3 of credit.
You can also get points by filling prescriptions or getting immunizations, or by joining the “Steps With Balance” program and logging every mile you walk. If you’re an AARP member, linking your account will get you 5,000 points when you spend $25 on a single purchase; doing so will also get you five exclusive points offers per month.
What to do with all those points? Trade them for more store credit: $10 (10,000 points), $20 (18,000), $35 (30,000) or $50 (40,000).
