Special Skills: Scalable Duck Illustration
To win this juried art contest, students in grades K through 12 create an original illustration of one of the 46 native duck, goose, or swan species found in the US, and make sure that their work can be scaled down to stamp size. The 2014-2015 award went to Si youn Kim, 16, of Tenafly, NJ, for his King Eider illustration (pictured).
“The artwork is judged on its anatomic correctness, the habitat that the bird is found in, [which] shows that the student has learned something about the conservation needs of the species, and suitability for us as a stamp,” says Junior Duck Stamp National Coordinator Suzanne Fellows.
Competitors showcase their work in state competitions before competing on a national level. Get quackin!
