'Grandma' and 'Grandpa' have a bit of a mileage problem that isn't shared with current people who proudly hold those titles. In fact, the terms have been around since the 18th century, where in Germany and Great Britain, grand was added to standard terms for parents to signify the importance of grandparents and to awknowledge the family lineage. Since then, 'grandma' and 'grandpa' have been swapped out for trendier names such as G-Ma and G-Pa. More and more modern grandparents are electing to choose a name that is more fun to say and fits their personailty to a tee. Here is a list of some of the trendier grandparent names used today.
I decided I would be "Grammy." My husband chose the traditional Grandpa but it has morphed into "Wampa." It seems to be sticking.
