Envelope Bird

Turn junk mail into a fine (not-so-feathered) friend.

By Sherri Lerner

[photo cover max-width=150 align=right]If you've got a stationary drawer (or a pile of junk mail) and a hand, you've got all you need to create this adorable bird from Noel MacNeal's 10-Minute Puppets (Workman).

  • Business-size envelope
  • Markers or crayons
  • Your hand

  1. Open the envelope and put your hand in it, four fingers in one corner and your thumb in the other.
  2. Gently push the bottom of the envelope into the crease between your thumb and fingers.
  3. Crease the paper gently and unfold it.
  4. Using the new creases as a guide, color in two eyes, a beak, and a tongue. (If you've got more time, rip colored sticky notes and use them for wings and feathers.)
