It's best known as the no-kill shelter that took in Michael Vick's pit bulls
after the NFL quarterback was convicted of running an illegal dog-fighting ring. But the Best Friends Sanctuary in Angel Canyon, Utah, is much more than that – it's home to more than 2,000 stray, abandoned, and abused animals, all available for sponsorship and adoption.
The organization offers veterinary care and long-term housing to cats, dogs, ducks (yes, ducks), and more, but also has major branches dedicated to public education and disaster response. Its No More Homeless Pets campaign
has helped to reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters from 17 million in the 1980s to just 5 million today. Learn more about the sanctuary here
